Puerto Rico confirmed as new hosts of U20 World Championship

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 13, 2015 – The FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship will now be hosted by Puerto Rico following the confirmation by the FIVB Board of Administration on Wednesday. 

The decision comes following the withdrawal of Cyprus. The dates of the competition are still to be confirmed.

New Team Ranking
Meanwhile, the Board also ratified a Sports Events Council internal decision to modify the Round Robin team ranking criteria for all events starting with the World League to be based on the following:

1) By the number of victories (match won, match lost)among teams of the same pool or group

Continental Olympic Qualifiers at end of year
The Board also decided to send a circular to all National Federations and Confederations that all club leagues and national championships must stop their activities between December 23, 2015 and January 10, 2016 in order to facilitate the hosting of the Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments.  

Attribution of points
The Board also approved the proposal that in case the team hosting the Olympic Games participated in a previous World Cup then they will keep the World Ranking points gained at the previous World Cup.
