Juncos, Puerto Rico, September 12, 2015 – In a heated match against a strong Puerto Rican team, the Russian players faced a difficult challenge and struggled in many occasions to keep their lead over the local players. Even with a strong defence, Puerto Rico couldn’t win over Russia who took the game 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-21).
In the first set and with the help of the loud and cheering crowd, Puerto Rico showed a strong attack and made important points in the first moments. But this was not enough to keep the Russian players from attacking and taking advantage of the weak service that Puerto Rico showed. Russia took the first set 25-14.
The hardest and most difficult set was the second. Both teams showed an extreme desire to lead the match and had a solid defense and a hard attack point by point. Even so, the Russian team managed to win the second set 25-17 over a screaming crowd.
Focus was lost for a moment in the third set on both teams. But after regaining their confidence the Russian girls were able to attack and take the third and last set (25-21) to win the match and advance to the next round.
