Cuba recover just in time against Puerto Rico

Cubans celebrate after defeating Puerto Rico

Gurabo, Puerto Rico, September 13, 2015 – Cuba recovered the composure in the fifth set and went on to edge Puerto Rico in five sets before a good crowd at Fernando Hernandez Coliseum  of Gurabo on Sunday night.

Wilfredo Robinson, coach of Cuba: Finally we were able to play our game because the two previous opponents were too strong. Unexpectedly the game changed and we couldn’t maintain the same level of reception but we recovered in the fifth set. Our goal is to build the confidence of our girls and work for the future.

Diaris Perez, captain of Cuba: We were nervous and made too many errors in the third and four sets won by Puerto Rico. We recovered and played Cuban volleyball in the fifth set. We belong to a lower level of age group but we will give our best to finish among the top twelve teams.

Xiomara Molero, coach of Puerto Rico: We battled hard in the third and fourth sets but didn’t have the fifth we wanted. We have to improve for the remaining matches. Cuba is a tall team with very strong players. We made some mistakes with our serves in the fifth set that didn’t help.

Barbara Lopez, captain of Puerto Rico: We played hard in the third and fourth set but were anxious in the fifth set. We were not mentally strong in the fifth set. We lost the focus.
