Astonishing game of Brayelin Martínez to put Dominican Republic on semifinals

Juncos, Puerto Rico, September 17, 2015 - At the final Pool F game in Juncos, Dominican Republic chained their sixth win in a row with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 28-26) over Peru that ejected both themselves and Japan to the semifinals. Peru will have to play for the fifth place.

Brayelin Martínez had another unbelievable game as she unfolded 27 points, as the key player for Dominican Republic to keep their undefeated condition. Sister Jineiry Martínez and Gaila González added 11 points each, while Natalia Martínez contributed with 13.

On Peru, captain Angela Leyva and Maguilaura Frías were well controlled by the Dominicans, but they improved as the game went on. Leyva finished with 15 shots and Frías scored 11 - all of them being only spikes.

The pool got decided when Dominican Republic jumped to a 2-0 lead. Brayelin Martínez was at the helm of a very superior Dominican side, while Peru were haunted by the need of a perfect win to qualify. Leyva and company couldn’t reach their rivals’ levels and the match quickly resolved its first two chapters.

As the pressure were off their shoulders, the Peruvian players put Dominican Republic into some trouble, with a better version of Leyva and Katherine Regalado cooperating with her captain. Nevertheless, the offensive power of Dominican Republic proved to be decisive as they kept the pace in a thrilling ending, with Brayelin finally establishing the win.
