Team profile

The Japanese U20 National Team consists of members selected from various teams of the country's top club teams in the V.League (Japan's premier league), the Challenge League and Japan's top high school teams. Each and every player has been selected for their exceptional volleyball talent.

Using typical characteristics that define volleyball in Japan -dexterity, hard work, discipline, and an endeavour to bring out players' individual personalities- the team is set to fight fiercely point by point, match by match at the 2015 U20 World Championship in Puerto Rico.

Furthermore, adding the esprit de corps of the team to the resolute and speedy combination volleyball, which is regarded as a tradition of Japanese volleyball, the squad is determined to play dynamic and consistent volleyball.

The Japan U20 team has not been together very long; however, making the most of team spirit but the will to perform at their best is there.

The team is led by head coach Kiyoshi Abo, whose coaching methods have a good reputation. He has iven emphasis to develop powerful blocking and his coaching policy is not to stereotype his players, but to develop their potential to the fullest.
