Team profile

The Dominican Republic team arrive to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship as the undefeated champions at the age-group Pan American Cup held at home in Santo Domingo last April where the team coached by Brazilian Wagner Pacheco defeated Argentina in four sets in the gold medal match. The side includes Pan American Cup MVP lefty Gaila Gonzalez as well as the siblings Brayelin and Jineiry Martinez who recently were part of the Dominican team that finished in seventh place at the FIVB Women’s World Cup in Japan. The Dominican Republic’s top honour at the U20 World Championship was a silver medal at the 2009 edition in Mexicali and Tijuana, Mexico. They finished fifth in 2011 and eighth in 2013.
