Puerto Rico claim their first win of the tournament

Caguas, Puerto Rico, September 17, 2015 - Puerto Rico finally got their desired win in the tournament after prevailing 3-2 (25-16, 25-10, 18-25, 23-25, 18-16) over a surprisingly battling Egyptian team, which almost achieved a nice comeback in Caguas.

Puerto Rico's top scores was Ivania Ortiz with 19 points. For Egypt, captain Mai Moustafa and Rahma Almohandes both had 11 points, as Egypt mainly fed from the Puerto Rican errors.

Puerto Rico easily took the first set over the poor defense from Egypt. The Puerto Rican team managed to score effectively and took the first set 25-16. The advantage was maintained in the second set by Puerto Rico who showed dominance over Egypt from the beginning. The host team took the second set 25-11.

Egypt regained their strength by the third set and managed to maintain the lead over the local team for the whole set. The Egyptian players worked hard on their block and won the third set 25-18.  And in the next one, although Puerto Rico managed to tie the set in a point over point battle, Egypt regained control and advanced over to take the set 25-23.

Puerto Rico could not go over Egypt's blocking and their attack wasn't effective at the beginning of the final set. Somehow, however, they managed to tie the set at one point and their confidence prevailed over Egypt's strategy. Some good defense from Egypt delayed the ending, until Puerto Rico won 18-16 in a hard-fought last point.
