Puerto Rican captain Lopez values experience gathered against China

Caguas, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2015 - Sometimes it’s not about winning in sports - that’s what happened with local team Puerto Rico at a challenging game against China. Regardless of the final result, captain Barbara Lopez underlined some positive aspects, as the home girls will grow facing such strong opponents.

Barbara Lopez, Puerto Rico captain: “It’s definitely a great experience to play against China. It will make us grow a lot. Although we didn’t win, we played a good game on the first two sets and were able to fight. Besides that, playing at home it’s amazing for us - to have fans and family supporting us. Now we have a key match against Egypt; we’re getting ready mentally and trying to correct our flaws for tomorrow.”

Xiomara Molero, Puerto Rico coach: “China played at a great volleyball level, with strong offense and blocking, added to their traditional defensive game. I’m going to say it again: It’s a surprise that China is playing this round and didn’t advance to the Top 8. As for us, we will continue working hard, trying to play better in order to conquer our first victory.”
