Kalhousova takes Czech Republic to first victory over Cuba

Maunabo, Puerto Rico, September 15, 2015 - Czech Republic overcame a tough Cuban team 3-0 (31-29, 25-13, 25-22) at their fourth classificatory game at FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship Pool G held in Maunabo. The Czech Republic aggressiveness served them a victory for the first time in the competition.

Czech Republic came to outlast a young but powerful Cuban selection. However, a sloppy Cuban reception enabled Czech Republic to step ahead in the first set even though both teams gave away a handful of chances.

On the following chapters, Cuba remained even but had to deal with a stronger answer by Czech Republic, provided by a key entrance of Lucie Kalhousova and the bright performances of Lucie Nova and Veronika Jandova.

Nova herself placed atop of the charts with 12 points, while Kalhousova trailed her with 11, scored from the second set onwards. Cuba had in Claudia Hernandez their main weapon with 11 tallies, the same amount than teammate Liset Herrera.
