Dominicans open with comfortable win over Turkey

Gurabo, Puerto Rico, September 11, 2015 – Dominican Republic beat Turkey 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-21) in their first match at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship on Friday night.

The duo of Brayelin Martinez and Natalia Martinez led the Dominican Republic with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Jinery Martinez and Gaila Gonzalez contributed 9 and 7 points, respectively, in the win. Mislina Kilic a topped the Turkish scoring with 16 tallies.

The Dominicans outscored Turkish side 5-4 in aces and 12-4 in blocks. Natalia Martinez had four aces and Angelica Hinojosa registered four blocks.

Natalia Martinez registered three aces to lead the Dominican Republic in the first set 25-20. Towering Brayelin Martinez closed the actions with a big blow from the left side.

The Dominicans jumped to a 5-0 advantage in the second set and were in front 8-4 and 16-9 at the technical time-outs behind the offensive exploits of Natalia. The one-sided set concluded 25-14.

Once again the Dominicans built an early 5-1 lead in the third set. They led 8-5 and 16-10 and finished the set and the match 25-20.
