Dominican Republic take over Bulgaria in straight-set win

Juncos, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2015 – In a difficult yet controlled game by Dominican Republic, Bulgaria tried their best to fight for a win but failed and the game was won by the Dominican players 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-18), placing themselves very close to the semifinals.

Captain Brayelin Martinez was once again one of the top scorers for Dominican Republic with 17 points, just as teammate Gaila Gonzalez who smashed the same amount. For Bulgaria, Miroslava Paskova charted 13 points.

The first set was completely led by Dominican Republic with a strong attack and an unbreakable block. The Bulgarian team seemed lost and defenseless. They failed to attack effectively and lost the first set by a wide 25-11 margin.

Bulgaria regained their focus and applied a better strategy attacking and blocking many of the Dominican players. But even with their rebuilt composure, it was not enough to win and Dominican Republic took the second set 25-17.

The third set was difficult for Dominican Republic who had some struggle to go over Bulgaria’s blocking. Even so they managed to overtake them in attacks and strong spikes to end up winning the set 25-18 and taking the match 3-0.
