Brazil join Dominican Republic with 2-0 mark

Gurabo, Puerto Rico, September 12, 2015 – Brazil joined the Dominican Republic with 2-0 win-loss record in Pool D of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 Volleyball World Championship following a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) over Turkey at Gurabo on Saturday night.

The first two sets of the match were well battle for a while before the South Americans established their dominance with good serves and outstanding defence at the net and the field.

Drussyla Costa topscored Brazil with 16 points, including five aces, while Lorenne Geraldo added 11 and Karoline Tormena contributed nine. Yagmur Kilic was the best scorer for Turkey with 10 points.

Turkey and Czech Republic will play on Sunday with both sides winless after two days of actions in the 16-team competition.

Brazil led 8-4 and 16-10 in the first set but Turkey reacted to close the gap at 20-18 before Lorenne Geraldo provided some breathing room and Karoline Tormena closed it at 25-19 with a crossed spike from the right side.

The second set was very close until the second technical time out with Brazil leading 8-7 and 16-14. The South Americans dominated the rest of the way with powerful offensive execution to end it 25-17.

Brazil took the third set by outclassing Turkey. The South Americans led 8-5 and 16-8 before closing the action 25-17 with a bomb by Geraldo.
