Battle of exhausting rallies goes for Japan over Chinese Taipei

Caguas, Puerto Rico, September 12, 2015 - A high pace game was the one starred by both defensive machines Chinese Taipei and Japan, with the latter prevailing after some serious wrestling 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 26-24).

Nanami Hirose paved the way for Japan with a match-high 19 points, while fellow outside-spiker Mizuki Yanagita backed her up with 15 shots. On Chinese Taipei, although the best skill was their never-ending defence, Tseng Wan-Ling did well with 11 points.

In a real treat for the sight, both teams delivered awesome plays with outstanding diggers and swift blockers from side to side of the net. Japan broke the deadlock twice through the likes of Yanagita and Hirose, main actresses of a stronger attack. It looked like Chinese Taipei could extend the game with a 14-9 in the third set, after successfully moving Tseng as opposite, but Japan eroded the difference and got a 23-point tie. Captain Yanagita put her side ahead and Japan closed it on their first shot.

With the result, not only Japan but also Italy are secured into the second round, as Pool C top two C teams. Both will decide the group winner on Sunday. Chinese Taipei and Egypt will look forward for the 9th place at the next phase.
