Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico are playing for the eighth time at the FIVB Women’s World Championship with their best finish ever an eighth place at the 2005 edition held in Ankara and Istambul, Turkey. They slipped to a ninth position in 2007 when the competition took place in Thailand. After an absence for two events the Puerto Rican returned into action at the 2013 tournament held at Czech Republic where they finished at a disappointing 19th position. Now the team are playing at home and will be fully supported by the local fans in the four cities serving as hosts.

Xiomara Molero

Xiomara Molero

Xiomara Molero’s career as player for the Puerto Rican national team spanned for 16 years (1989-2003) serving as the regular setter and captain for most of that extensive period. After her retirement, Molero began her coaching career leading Valencianas of Juncos to the title at the 2007 edition of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League. As a player, she was a member of six teams that went on to win the crown at the local league. Xiomara is the first woman to coach a Puerto Rican National Team at a volleyball world championship in any age category.
